Fire Department Holds Drill; Residents Asked Not to PanicFirefighters run a rescue drill outside the community center yesterday. [Staff Report] The North District fire department held a rescue drill yesterday (the 6th) outside the community center, simulating a third-floor apartment fire and practicing alerts, firefighting and rescue, with more than ten people and vehicles. Smoke and alarms were used during the drill, which lasted about forty minutes. The department had posted notices in each borough beforehand. Firefighters also taught residents to use extinguishers, "pull, aim, squeeze, sweep," and where to install home smoke alarms. Most home fires happen late at night, the department said. Check plugs before bed, do not chain extension cords for high-power appliances, and keep escape routes clear. Reader DiscussionReplies 0
