Children's Calligraphy Contest Held at Community CenterChildren put brush to paper at the community center yesterday. [Staff Report] The North District elementary school calligraphy contest was held yesterday (the 19th) at the community center, with nearly two hundred pupils from twelve schools taking part in middle and upper grade divisions. Topics were set on the spot: middle grades wrote a five-character quatrain, upper grades an eight-line regulated verse, in ninety minutes. The hall was divided by grade, desks covered in felt, and brushes, ink, paper and inkstones supplied by the organizers. An elementary school teacher on the judging panel said children spend less time practicing these days, but their character structure still shows care. "A few of them sign their names more steadily than adults." The organizers said winners will be posted on school notice boards next week, and the top three works will be displayed at the community center for two weeks. Reader DiscussionReplies 2
