Street Tree Pruning Begins This WeekWorkers trim street trees from a cherry picker yesterday. [Staff Report] The parks office said street trees grew quickly in spring and some branches now touch power lines and second-floor windows. Pruning will proceed area by area from this week and take about a month. Branches will be thinned while keeping the trunk's shape, to preserve summer shade. Work uses a cherry picker, about one to two hours per spot, and that side of the road will be closed meanwhile. The office said it has had complaints in past years of over-pruning, trees "cut down to telephone poles," and has told the contractor to follow the rules and will supervise on site. Residents who see dead, leaning or loose branches can report them through the borough office for priority handling. Reader DiscussionReplies 3
