Typhoon Season Near: Clear Your GuttersSanitation workers clear mud from a gutter in a North District lane yesterday. [Staff Report] With typhoon season approaching, the sanitation team is urging residents to clear the gutters and roof downspouts around their homes before the rains, so leaves and trash do not cause flooding. Low-lying lanes in the district flood in every heavy rain, the team said, mostly because of silt under the gutter covers. Boroughs will schedule ditch cleaning from next week and post the dates in advance. Some shops pile recycling and boxes on the gutter covers, the team said, which gets in the way of collection and gets washed into the drains when it rains. It will step up warnings. Broken, sunken or smelly gutter covers can be reported to the borough office or the sanitation hotline. Reader DiscussionReplies 3
